The service life and performance of a spur gear are directly related to selecting the appropriate material for its operating conditions. Different materials can be selected depending on load, rotational speed, impact, operating duration, and environmental conditions. Depending on production requirements, heat treatment methods such as carburizing, induction hardening, and nitriding can be applied. These processes are intended to improve tooth surface wear resistance and extend the service life of the gear. When properly designed and manufactured, spur gears provide high mechanical efficiency.
